The holiday season is nearly upon us! The Southern Arizona weather is cooling down and the cacti are strung with lights. Whether you’re a seasonal or year-round resident, there’s nothing quite like the holidays in Tucson. This year, start a new family tradition by trying out one (or more) of these classic Tucson activities!
The kitchens in Fairfield homes are perfect for hosting Thanksgiving dinner and high ceilings make it possible to fit a magnificent Christmas tree. Creating holiday memories and passing down traditions like decorating with kids, cooking family meals, and writing holiday cards are some of the best parts of the holidays.
Here are a few of the unique Southern Arizona winter activities for the whole family.
If you don’t want the hassle of decorating and cleanup, take a staycation with the whole family! Tucson boasts some of the best resorts and hotels with incredible mountain views and activities for the whole family. Some resorts like El Conquistador, La Paloma, and Dove Mountain also have great golf courses, spas, and amazing restaurants.
The Winterhaven Festival of Lights is famous in the area! There are options to walk, dive, or take a trolly around this gorgeous, illuminated neighborhood. Admission is free but donations of canned food for the Community Food Bank are highly encouraged. Monetary donations are also accepted!
Believe it or not, it does get cold in Southern Arizona! Especially on Mt. Lemmon. After a winter storm, make sure the roads are open and take the family up for some snowy fun! You can spend a great day sledding, making snow angels, and having a snowball fight. After, check out the stores in Winterhaven for warm food and drinks.
Give back to those in need this holiday season by volunteering at the Community Food Bank! They offer special Family Volunteer Days so that kids under 16 can give back too. For more information and to sign up, go to the Food Bank website.
